 “Beans” is an award-winning coffee house which has taken up residence in a century old historic church building.  Its couches and easy chairs create a cozy “Third Place” illuminated by stained glass windows, where you can chat for hours, read the paper, or enjoy live music .  Our coffee and espresso drinks are made with organic fair trade coffee beans roasted locally.  We bake on location with fresh herbs, veggies and berries from our kitchen garden. A lunch of quiche, baguette and salad or a panini dinner tastes best with local Frederick beer, wine from the Frederick County vineyards and the hillside of Sugar Loaf Mountain.  Our heavenly desserts taste even more decadent when paired with artisan mead crafted by folks just down the road.  We use fresh local ingredients whenever possible for tasty and nutritious dishes and refreshing drinks.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Carriage House Inn in Emmitsburg was built circa 1857 and served as a grain warehouse, a broom factory, and a bus depot before becoming a restaurant in 1953. Born three decades later, the Carriage House Inn is a restaurant and caterer and hosts special events in Joann’s Ballroom. We are open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, and our extensive menu features specialties such as cream of crab soup and meaty crab cakes. We offer a variety of seafood, veal, poultry, and beef entrées and a sumptuous Sunday brunch buffet.
